And at that point, you can just go Hexblade to get Charisma attacks anyway. A warlock multiclass maybe, but if you’re trying to be a melee weapon warlock, going pact of the tome for Shillelagh at the expense of getting Eldritch Smite later isn’t worth it. Clerics, Monks, and maybe Rangers are probably the ones who use it best. It wasn’t that good to begin with, but it used to have less competition. I'm half tempted to take Sorcerer at level 1 for the Con proficiency and a level of Cleric to get heavy armour - but the verdict is out on that one.Īs of primal savagery, Shillelagh isn’t that good on Druids anymore because the damage doesn’t scale up like cantrip attacks do. Chuck in Divine Favour/Hex for extra damage or Bless for extra to hit/save rolls and you have a super solid frontliner that also does a fair wack of damage. You also get +CHA to your attack damage twice (once from Shillelagh, once from Oathbreaker's level 7 feature) meaning you have a flat 12 damage on each attack (including the 2 from Dueling Fighting Style). This gives you all the benefits of Paladin, with +5 to all saving throws from your CHA (plus Shield and Absorb Elements from Sorcerer if you go that route) for a truely tanky boy. Don't drop it too far.ģ Tomelock (or 1 Giant Soul Sorcerer) and 7+ Oathbreaker Paladin with Polearm Master for the bonus action attack. Edit: Forgot you need STR to multi out of Paladin. Dump STR, a little in DEX, lots in CON & CHA. I do! The one I'm considering currently is Hill Dwarf (with rolled stats and the ability to put racial stats wherever, so your mileage may vary). Battle Smith Artificer (Level 3) - Attack with INT with Magic Weapons.Hexblade Warlock (Level 1) - Attack with CHA.Theurgy Wizard, Arcana Acolyte (Level 6, Wizard Revisited).Giant Soul Sorcerer, Hill Giant Expanded Spell List (Level 1, Giant Soul).Ranger, Druidic Warrior Fighting Style (Level 2, UA-Class Features).Strength Cleric, Acolyte of Strength (Level 1, Plane Shift Amonkhet).Lore Bard, Additional Magical Secrets (Level 6).Nature Cleric, Acolyte of Nature (Level 1).Bard, Magical Secrets Class Feature (Level 10).Grugach Elf ( Unearthed Arcana Elf Subraces).Emiria Merfolk ( Planeshift Zendikar).I'm throwing every source I can in here, but if I miss any please do point them out and I'll edit them into the post! I've been messing around with builds using Shillelagh since it's such a great build defining ability - but I haven't been able to find a comprehensive list of ways to get it.
